Lingq is an app and a website to learn languages. The tool has been launched by Steve Kaufmann, a polyglot leaving in Canada

Lingq helps you practice reading and listening. You can use several modes:

  • MP3 player
  • listen and reading whole text
  • read and listen sentence per sentence
  • show/hide translations

With the Lingq plugin, it is possible to import some videos from Youtube that have subtitles. Strangely, it does not work with all videos on Youtube.

Bugs and limitations

The word split in different groups and split of sentences is sometimes buggy.

In December 2022, I started to use intensively (approx 30 min), Lingq to practice reading and listening. If you are familliar with Assimil this is quite similar. However, there are some differences:

  • you can see translations of words or group of words in Lingq
  • you can indicate how confident you are knowing the word on a scale with 5 level
  • in Lingq, you do not have footnote explaining words or construction
